‘American Idol’ star and Grammy winner Mandisa dies at 47

Hundley achieved a ninth-place finish in the competition. She successfully transitioned from her “American Idol” fame to a gospel music career, collaborating with renowned artists such as TobyMac, Kirk Franklin, and Jon Reddick. Her album “True Beauty,” released in 2007, debuted at No. 1 on the Christian album chart and No. 43 on the Billboard 200. Throughout her career, she released a total of six studio albums and received five Grammy nominations. Notably, in 2014, she won a Grammy for best contemporary Christian music album for “Overcomer.” In her personal life, Hundley candidly shared her struggles with severe depression, abuse, and disordered eating in her 2022 book, “Out of the Dark: My Journey Through the Shadows to Find God’s Joy.”

David Pierce, chief media officer of Christian radio network K-LOVE, expressed, “Mandisa faced challenges and showed vulnerability by sharing them with us, sparking conversations about our own difficulties. Mandisa’s battles have come to an end. She is now in the presence of the God she sang about. Although we are grieving, Mandisa has found her home. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mandisa’s loved ones, and we invite you to join us in prayer.”
