A fourth person says: “I guess call me an Ed Sheeran hater because wtf is this.”
“Oh, Ed Sheeran,” pens another X user, alongside a GIF of Tyra Banks shouting: “I was rooting for you, we were all rooting for you! How dare you!”
Others are taking to the platform and defending Sheeran, saying cancel culture is going too far.
“I try to stay above the nonsense most of the time but… Good luck trying to cancel Ed Sheeran kids!” pens one fan.
Another fumes: “Cancel, cancel, cancel. I’m so sick of cancel culture.”
While a third X user enthuses: “Oh my goodness! So much love, so many legends, so much awesomeness in this epic picture!”
The viral photo of Sheeran, Depp, and Crowe was captured at Andrea Bocelli’s concert series.
The three were featured as special guests at the renowned Italian tenor’s three-day Tuscan event celebrating his 30th anniversary in music.
Crowe uploaded the now-infamous photo to social media, alongside the caption: “Teatro del Silenzio backstage shenanigans with Teddy & Johnny. Lubrication by Guinness. Perfect.
“Grazie Millie Maestro Andrea Bocelli. What an incredible experience.”
The seemingly innocent photo has caused controversy for Sheeran, but why?
In June 2022, Depp won a defamation case against Aquaman star and ex-wife Amber Heard.
The actress was sued for damages over a 2018 op-ed piece for The Washington Post in which she said she had become a ‘public figure representing domestic abuse.’
Depp’s attorneys said although the actor wasn’t mentioned by name, it indirectly referred to previous allegations she’d made against him.
Although the Edward Scissorhands star won the case, many people have continued to side with Heard, who appears to have moved away from the spotlight.
But it isn’t just Depp who has faced controversy.
Crowe has garnered a reputation for having a bad temper and over the years has been involved in numerous incidents.
In the book ‘The Men Who Would Be King: An Almost Epic Tale of Moguls, Movies, and a Company called DreamWorks,’ written by Nicole LaPorte, it’s claimed that Crowe threatened to kill a veteran producer with his bare hands during a phone call.
According to the book, Crowe’s exact words were (per The Guardian): “You motherf***er. I will kill you with my bare hands.”
Another incident occurred in 2005, as per Today, when the Gladiator star allegedly threw a phone at a hotel employee.
The actor was charged with second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon (the telephone) after allegedly going into a rage over the broken phone, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Crowe’s rep said the star hurled the phone at the wall and he neither hurt nor assaulted anybody. However, the actor did plead guilty to a lesser charge and paid an undisclosed settlement to the hotel worker, per CBS News.
In an interview with Charlie Rose in 2010, Crowe reflected on the incident and said it ‘affected me psychologically,’ adding it was ‘the most shameful situation I’ve ever got myself in.’
In 2015, the actor was accused of assaulting ‘212’ rapper Azealia Banks.
Banks accused the 60-year-old of abusing her at a party in his Beverly Hills hotel room.
The rapper claimed he grabbed her by the neck, spat on her, and racially abused her before throwing her out of the party.
According to BBC News, the Gladiator actor denied the accusations and did not face charges.
Wu-Tang Clan star RZA, who invited Banks to the party, later admitted seeing the actor spit at the rapper.
“Look, he spit at her,” he told Charlamagne Tha God on The Breakfast Club. “I saw that.”
Both actors have their fair share of controversies, leaving fans wondering why Sheeran, who’s known for his squeaky-clean image, would choose to be seen with them.
On the flip side, many fans were thrilled, with one person commenting, “Oh my goodness! So much love, so many legends, so much awesomeness in this epic picture!”
