Zara shared her experience with CBS News, stating, “I have never experienced anything like this in my life. I felt so weighed down that I couldn’t even lift my head. Suddenly, I began to have these intense seizures.” She was taken to a private hospital for treatment, with Jake by her side throughout the ordeal. The two students from Oklahoma Christian University were reportedly informed that the cost for Zara’s care would be at least $10,000. After a brief stay in the Mexican hospital, Zara was transported back to the United States on a private plane to Texas, where she is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Dallas since Saturday, August 3. “When we arrived, I was unable to breathe independently,” Zara recounted. “They attempted to wean me off the ventilator, but each time, my lungs would just fail.” According to CBS, Zara has experienced at least 18 seizures, yet doctors have not identified any underlying issues, raising suspicions that she may have been drugged. The news outlet reports that Zara is on the path to recovery but will require physical therapy to regain her ability to walk.
The couple has chosen not to disclose the name of the facility where she received treatment in Mexico, citing concerns that it could endanger their families. Zara has now vowed never to leave the United States again. She stated, “We will never leave the United States again. They claim the resort is the safest place; do not venture outside. That is not accurate.” It remains uncertain whether they have submitted a police report. In the meantime, Zara’s family has initiated a fundraiser to assist with her medical expenses, which has raised over $6,000 of the $35,000 goal as of this writing.
