The triplets, Robert Shafran, Edward Galland, and David Kellman, were born to a teenage mother in New York in July 1961. Separated at birth, they were each adopted by different families and grew up within 100 miles of each other. Unbeknownst to them, their adoptions were part of a secretive experiment. It wasn’t until they were teenagers that the triplets discovered each other’s existence by chance. Robert and Edward, who attended Sullivan Community College together, realized they were related after a friend noticed their striking resemblance and they learned about their adoptions.
