Daniel Day-Lewis Makes Rare Appearance to Honor Martin Scorsese at Awards Gala

Daniel Day-Lewis, who usually stays out of the public eye, showed up at an event in New York to honor his long-time friend Martin Scorsese. Scorsese got an award for being the best director at the National Board of Review Awards Gala. Day-Lewis, who doesn’t act anymore and hasn’t been seen much recently, spoke highly of Scorsese’s talent and the joy of working with him. They even took pictures together on the red carpet.

Day-Lewis praised Scorsese for making captivating films and talked about the privilege of working with him. He also thanked the National Board of Review for recognizing Scorsese’s incredible skills. After giving Scorsese the award, they posed for photos, both looking happy.

Day-Lewis, who retired from acting in 2017, is a three-time Oscar winner. His last movie was “Phantom Thread.” Day-Lewis doesn’t often appear in public, and there were concerns about his health when he was seen using crutches in 2023. His representative didn’t comment on his condition.

Day-Lewis is the only actor to win three Oscars for Best Actor. He won for “Lincoln,” “There Will Be Blood,” and “My Left Foot.” He took a break from acting in the late 1990s to work as a cobbler in Italy. When he retired in 2017, his representative mentioned that it was a private decision, and Day-Lewis wouldn’t comment further.

The National Board of Review Awards Gala also recognized Scorsese’s film “Killers of the Flower Moon” as the best film of 2023, and Lily Gladstone received the best actress award.
