The Bear
“The Bear” is an American comedy-drama series about a world-renowned chef who returns home to Chicago to take over his family’s sandwich shop after his brother’s death. Created by Christopher Storer, the Hulu show stars Jeremy Allen White as Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, who works to turn The Beef’s ragtag kitchen staff into Michelin-level chefs, all the while dealing with grief and the restaurant’s building debt. Ebon Moss-Bachrach plays the gruff but lovable “Cousin” Richie, and Ayo Edebiri plays Carmy’s ambitious sous chef Sydney. The ensemble cast also includes Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, Abby Elliot, Matty Matheson and Edwin Lee Gibson.
Set in Chicago, “The Bear” has become known for its authentic portrayal of the restaurant industry, as well as its ‘90s alternative rock soundtrack, which features bands like Wilco, Counting Crows and Pearl Jam. In its debut year, “The Bear” became FX’s most-watched half-hour series and took home trophies from the Screen Actors, Writers and Producers Guild Awards. Additionally, White won the Golden Globe for best actor in a TV series, musical or comedy, and Edebiri won the Independent Spirit Award for supporting performance. The show is nominated for 13 Emmys for the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards, including best comedy series and acting noms for White, Edebiri and guest stars Jon Bernthal and Oliver Platt. “The Bear” returned for Season 2 in June 2023 with a bevy of guest stars, including Jamie Lee Curtis, Bob Odenkirk, John Mulaney, Olivia Colman, Will Poulter and Sarah Paulson. Molly Gordon joined the cast as Carmy’s love interest, Claire.
